Rogers Drum Kits

Rogers Drum Set - 2
(Click on images to view enlarged image)
Description:
- 14 X 22 (Bass Drum), 10 X 14 (Small TOM), 16 X 16 (Floor TOM)
Comments:

There is no model in any Rogers catalog that features this configuration. The 10 x 14 hanging Tom is quite unusual. Unfortunately, I only have the one Tom, despite the fact that the bass drum is fitted with a double Tom holder. The Drums have seen quite a bit of wear and tear. Nevertheless, this is a great players kit, The set comes with a ball turret holder and bass drum spurs.

Description:
- 14 X 22 (Bass Drum), 9 X 13 (Small TOM), 16 X 16 (Floor TOM)
Comments:

This set is part of a 2 bass drum set that I purchased some time ago. I decided to split the set and sell as two different drum sets. There is no model for this set in any Rogers catalog. The placement of the Tom holder indicates that this was a custom modification by the original owner. The drums have grey speckled interiors. The finish, too, is somewhat of an anomaly. It is original, although I find no such finish in any Rogers catalog. As you can see by the photos, the drums have seen quite a bit of wear and tear, but I've played this set out and they sound great, albeit with different heads on them. Contact me if you have any further questions.

Rogers Silver Sparkle Drum Kit

Description:

- 20 x 14 Bass Drum

- 16 x 16 Floor Tom

- 12 x 8 & 13 x 9 Small Toms

- 10 Lug Snare Drum

- Free Standing Tom Holder

- Gray Speckled Interiors

- Dayton Badges

Comments:

This kit is rather unusual because of its virgin bass drum and the free standing tom holder. There is no single bass drum kit from this era that has this configuration. The drums are from the late 60's, but the tom stand is from the 70's, although it is still a swivomatic holder. The finish is slightly faded and the drums have seen their fair share of use, but there are no extra holes or modifications to the shells.

Rogers Red Onyx Drum Kit
Description:
- 14 X 20, 16 X 16, 8 X 12 (2 TOMS) 5 X 14 Wood Powertone Snare Drum
- Mid 60's
- Red Onyx Wrap
Comments:

The Top Hat outfit was originally offered in this configuration, but you could substitute different size toms and bass drums.

You could also, if you so desired, substitute a wood or metal Dynasonic in place of the Powertone Snare drum.

There were 3 Onyx wraps offered--Blue Onyx, Black Onyx, and this finish, Red Onyx.

Rogers Blue Onyx Drum Kit

Rogers Celebrity Drum Kit

Description:

1 14 X 22, 2 16X16, 1 13 X9, 1 12 X 8.

1 Wood Powertone Snare Drum.

Early 70's

Comments:

This kit doesn't really match up to any particular model. No Rogers kits in the early catalogs offered 2 16 x 16 floor toms. Of course, you could order them, if you so desired. The closest kit to this would be the Top Hat model, but it came with either 2 8 x 12 small toms or 2 9 x 13 small toms. The Bass and toms were purchased together. They have speckled grey interiors. The Wood Powertone was added later. It has a flat grey interior.

Rogers Celebrity Drum Kit

Rogers Celebrity Drum Kit

Description:

1 14 x 20, 1 16x16, 1 8 x 12, 1 5 x 14 Powertone Wood Snare drum

Middle 60's

Comments:

This kit was also associated with Buddy Rich in the early Rogers catalogs. This kit comes with a matching Powertone snare drum. All the interiors are flat grey. Black Onyx was one of 3 Onyx finishes offered by Rogers. The other two were Blue and Red. Perhaps the Blue was the most common, with the Black being the least common.

Rogers Headliner Drum Kit

Rogers Headliner Drum Kit

Description:
1 14 X20, 1 16 X16, 1 8 X 12
Comments:

Rogers offered a number of different drum kit configurations in their catalogs. The Headliner model was just one of them.

In the early catalogs, it was called the Buddy Rich Headliner kit. You could substitute a 14 x 22 bass drum and a 14 x 14 floor tom if you so desired. It also came with a metal or Wood Powertone. This kit has flat grey interiors on all the drums.

Rogers Top Hat Drum Kit

Description:
- 14 X 20, 16 X 16, 14 X 14, 8 X 12, and 5 X 14 Wood Dynasonic
- Augmented Top Hat kit
- Bread and butter lug--- bass drum, bearvertail lug--- toms and Dynasonic
Comments:

This kit started out as the standard Top Hat kit. A previous owner replaced the original bass drum with an earlier drum with Bread and Butter lugs.

A 14 x 14 floor tom was also added.

The kit came standard with a Powertone Snare Drum, but the Dynasonic could be ordered as a replacement.

Rogers Holiday Drum Kit

Description:
- 20 X 14, 16 X 16, 8 X 12, 5 1/2 X 14 (bass drum   cymbal holder not included)
- Wood shell Powertone snare drum
- Blue sparkle / Grey speckled interiors
- Mid 60s's

Comments:

The configuration on this kit closely matches the discription of the Swingtime outfit that was offered in 1964. That kit had bread and butter lugs. This kit has beavertail lugs which is why I described it as a Holiday outfit.

Nevertheless, it does have the collett cymbal holder that was a Swingtime feature instead of a knobby for the bass drum cymbal stand. The sparkle finish is in good shape considering its age

Rogers Red Wine Ripple Drum Set

Description:
- Rogers Drum Set - Beaver Tail Lug
- Late 60's
- 4-Piece Drum Kit
- 5x14 Rogers Powertone Snare Drum, 9x13, 16x16, &   14x22
- Rogers Swivomatic Hardware

Comments:

Red Wine Ripple is a rare finish. I've seen only one drummer play a kit in this finish in all my years.

Rogers New England White Drum Set

Description:
- Rogers Drum Set - Beaver Tail Lug
- 3-Piece Drum Set
- 9x13, 16x16, 14x22
Comments:

In 1966, CBS bought Rogers. At first, the company continued to manufacture drums in Ohio, but within a year they moved their whole operation to Fullerton, Callifornia.

Some collectors look down on the "Fullerton" drums, but they are fine instruments that have, for the most part, stood the test of time.

This set is from the early '70's and the wrap is called New England White.

Rogers New England White 2-Tom Kit

Description:
- Rogers Drum Set - Beaver Tail Lug
- 4-Piece Drum Kit
- 8x12, 9x13, 16x16, 14x22

Comments:

Yet another example of a Fullerton kit in New England White, this time with two hanging toms.

The Rogers swivomatic hardware was considered state of the art for its time.

Rogers Top Hat Model Drum Set

Description:
- Pink Champagne Wrap
- 14 X 20, 16 X 16, (2) 8 X 12, 5 ½ x 14 Powertone Snare

Comments:

Rogers, like most of the drum companies at the time, offered various sparkle wraps. But the Rogers Sparkles, and to a lesser extent, the Gretsch Sparkles had more of a glitter to them, a “crushed glass” effect if you will.

The most popular wraps were blue, red, and silver, but over the years, the gold, champagne, and green finishes have grown in popularity.

This champagne sparkle kit comes with a matching Powertone snare drum. Some sparkle wraps tend to fade with time. This particular kit has very little fading.

Rogers Black Onyx Double Bass Set

                         -Click for larger image-

Description:
- 5-Piece Drum Kit
- (2)20 X 14, 16 X 16, 8 X 12, 5 ½ X 14 Powertone Snare    Drum

Comments:

The Rogers Drum Company offered 3 different Onyx finishes. Blue Onyx was perhaps the most popular. My favorite, Black Onyx, is the rarest of the finishes.

This kit has two bass drums, a concept favored by the great Louie Bellson, drummer with Duke Ellington. There is also a matching wood Powertone that comes with the kit.

Rogers Pink Champagne Pearl Kit

Description:
- 3 piece drum kit
- Mid 60's-Beaver tail lug
- 9 x 13, 16 x 16, 14 x 20

Comments:

The Rogers Company offered 6 different sparkle finishes.
This wrap was known as Pink Champagne. All of the finishes really stood out on stage.

Drummers at the time used to comment about the "glittery" appearance of these drums when they were under stage lighting.

Rogers Black Diamond Pearl Set

Description:
- Rogers Drum Set - Beaver Tail Lug
- 4-Piece Drum Kit
- 5x14 Rogers Powertone snare drum, 8x12, 16x16,   14x22
- Black Diamond Pearl Wrap

Comments:

This kit is a combination of drums made in Ohio and California. Unfortuntately, the snare and small tom are both re-wraps.

The original black diamond finish was cracked and peeling. It needed to be replaced. It still is a good sounding snare drum, but the re-wrap lessens the value and unique vintage feel.
