The
Gretsch Drum Company has an illustrious history
that spans over 7 decades. The 1940's were an especially
important time for the company. Many of their most
famous endorsers, e.g. Max Roach and Art Blakely,
were in the forefront of the Be-bop movement.
Gretsch
even made a special 4 x 14 snare drum for Max to
play this new "experimental" music.
The pictured beauty is from 1947. She has the 3
ply wood shell and is wrapped in the beautiful Oriental
Pearl.
This wrap was Gretsch's answer to the White Marine
Pearl that was offered by other companies.
